trailing

I had a foot out the door
when she stopped me, not
what she said but how
she said it, trailing.

She sat at her table, next
to a walker and her new
friends on the Price is Right
blinking from the black box
on the other side. She told
the girl in the purple shirt

it didn’t fit right
and made her look
ridiculous
and why is she dancing
in those silly boots? I could
stay a while and visit
I suppose.
